WTF do these things mean?

Ok, so I’m sure by now you’ve all seen those white oval acronym bumper stickers, that exist to shove black letters in your face, all over the place and you think you’re pretty clever for knowing what a few of them mean, right?

As I understand, its origin is a Euro-thing for non-EU plated cars; they were intended for the purpose of country identification on autos for owners who opt not to have it appear on their license plate.

So,  you can reasonably guess that SCO stands for Scotland, GB for Great Britain, etc.  Though, with so many European countries, the acronyms can get quite tricky and you have to know a little bit about the world to know that “E” is for Spain, because to them, their country is Espana, Croatia is “HR” because in their language it’s Hravtska and so on.

Now that this oval bumper sticker form of ID has turned into a worldwide sensation with every city, state and country trying to cram itself into an acronym, it is more confusing than ever to decipher what these things mean without a secret decoder ring, a “One ring to reveal them all”, if one even exists, which I doubt. Stupid Frodo.

And now that I see these things everywhere, I’m having panic-attack flashbacks of trying to memorize the states and capitals in 3rd grade social studies.  Today I saw one on a car with the letters ‘CZR’ and maybe it’s just me, but my mind struggled to sort it out right away, and then it came to me  (although I’ll never know for sure since I couldn’t tail-gait close enough to see the actual answer imprinted underneath those big bold letters).

My second thought was that he’s from the Czech Republic. Perhaps. But, despite my love for my freaky-deaky Czechs (Ivuska!), I guess my years in the service industry are to blame because my first thought was, “Hey, two honks for you, buddy…I love ceasar salad, too!”, but who cares what I think?
